Karsen, a 24 year-old Blessed, and Ivy, a 14 year-old Immune, are united by fate and circumstance in the wreckage of a world where science created magic. Ten years after The Poisoning, Ivy’s dad, a Blessed, goes missing from their hidden bunker in the outskirts of Raleigh, NC. Ivy rushes to find him in a panic, using clues and magically imbued technology he left behind. Karsen, on her own quest for vengeance for the company that started the end of the world, comes to Ivy’s rescue when she hears her being attacked soon into her journey.
Ivy’s young desperation and spirit begins to coax the warmth out of Karsen’s icy heart, and soon after Karsen reluctantly helps Ivy, they find signs of captive Blessed and Otravech technology, revealing that Karsen and Ivy share the same goal- Finding Otravech means finding Ivy’s dad. But finding Ivy’s dad may also mean finding more about his past, and her own, than Ivy bargained for. With fear, revenge, and retribution driving the duo forward, Karsen and Ivy must rely on each other to battle through masses of Poisoned and face the truths of the new world, each other, and the growing threat of their pasts, if they each want to make it to Ivy’s dad alive and save society from further devastation.
